Every child has a unique learning style and a set of learning preferences. These go beyond the curriculum and include aspects such as learning new languages, insights on career choices and exploring destinations, cultures and activities. The standardised nature of formal education leaves many of these aspirations and needs unfulfilled.  Every child’s interests, passions and needs across a diverse set of subjects and sectors are now met by tutors and mentors matched to their individual needs across Grade 5-12.

Who do you define as tutors?

We define tutors as individuals who fulfil the following requirements -  In-depth knowledge and understanding of the academic curriculum, teaching methodology and the test patterns of one or more of the various Indian curriculums (ICSE, CBSE, State Boards) or International Curriculums (IB, IGCSE). The above knowledge and experience was gained either as a school teacher or a private tutor. Individuals who can go beyond the textbook and engage children with activities, real-world examples and help children fall in love with the subject

How does the Edvolve platform work?

As a tutor/mentor, you can offer your classes, courses or experiences to an audience of your choosing, at a time of your choosing and a cost of your choosing. To enable you to do this, the Edvolve platform consists of 3 portals.  1. User platform - This is the portal that children sign-up on, to engage with the mentors.   2. Mentor platform - This is the portal that mentors get access to, and create content for the children.   3. Admin portal - This is the centralised system that oversees the activities, and moderates content. All kinds of content/activities that mentors wish to create (experience/course/webinar) goes through a simple and quick approval flow via the admin team, which then gets published for children to access/book and pay for.

How can a mentor benefit/earn via the Edvolve platform?

Children need perspectives and engagement outside of the school curriculum to help them grow and plan their path ahead. You can use your domain experience and skills to help them understand various career paths, curriculum applications and generally gain exposure. Use your passion to teach and engage children and help them gain access to the knowledge and opportunities that matter the most. Earn and build your brand as a mentor on your own terms while you make a difference in young lives! The expertise or experience of the mentor can be shared via the following class formats: - Online Workshops: Create a curated live online experience/workshop, which can be activity based/knowledge sharing/performance oriented.  - Online Courses: Create a live online course, where you are converting your know-how into a set of classes, which involves a defined learning outcome.  - Webinars: Share your knowledge and experiences in your field via a global webinar (which would be attended by children live, and also uploaded later on our platform for others to view), where the children get to learn the industry applications of their classroom learning. Help them understand how your industry works, inspiring them to take it up as a career option, or just get to hear your journey in the field. This third income stream comes with a commitment of answering questions that the children ask post uploading of your webinar, in the QnA section.

What is the difference between an online workshop and an online course?

An online workshop involves a one-time, engaging video chat, that is essentially exposing kids to information or activity for a brief period (30 minutes up to 3 hours). This also can be used as an introduction point to your course.   An online course involves a series of live classes for a batch of children, that has a defined learning outcome, and perhaps involves coursework and a quiz in the end.

What kind of mentors can consider being a part of the Edvolve mentor network?

There are very few individuals who can translate industry experience into practical learning for children. Thus, our mentor screening process is quite stringent. Do ensure that you have the following qualities:  - A proper plan to ensure that your classes have a well-defined outcome that a parent would want his/her child to achieve.  - The patience and dedication to ensure that every child is able to learn about your field and gets inspired to delve deeper.  - The professionalism and drive to never miss any scheduled experience or class, in case you have full-time jobs or are running a business. - We want to make sure that you are qualified to talk about your skills and industry. We have a brief vetting process with the mentors that we take very seriously, especially to ensure that no incorrect or misleading information is imparted.

How do I apply to become a mentor with Edvolve?

What happens after my mentor account is created?

Accepted Answer

Once your mentor profile is created by us, you will receive an SMS with the credentials of your mentor portal access. Use it to login to mentor.edvolve.in.

To make it easier for parents/children to learn about the mentor, we have created a profile page for each mentor, the details of which we expect the mentors to fill once logged in for the first time. Once logged in, we request you to immediately do the following:
-  Go to profile section. Fill all the required details that is asked here, which are as follows:
1. First name and last name
2. City - Your current location
3. A profile picture - this can be a good picture of yourself or perhaps your org’s logo.
4. A cover photo - this can be a representation of you involved in an activity relevant to your field.
5. Tagline - This is a 10-word description of yourself. A small bio.
6. Summary - This is where you write a brief description about you, introducing yourself to the kids/parents.

- After that, go to “account details” and share the complete details of the account that would be used to credit your earnings.

How do I choose between an online workshop and an online course?

Accepted Answer

This is entirely depending on your comfort level and your available time and teaching resources.  Choose a workshop if:  - You want provide an introduction which may or may not involve a hands-on activity that you can guide the children in doing (while ensuring that the activity doesn’t involve major effort or expense in acquiring the raw materials required) for a duration between 30 minutes and up to 3 hours.   Choose a course if:  - You can teach the kids something that has a well-defined outcome, and requires at least 3-6 hours of vocational training outside coursework/homework.  - You have a series of activity or non-activity based learning that requires a certain gap between each class. How do I create an online workshop?

To create an online workshop, go to “Online Workshops” on the left navigation bar of your portal. You will find 2 sections here.

Online Workshop:
This is where you define your workshop with complete details. Click on “Add new workshop” to submit an workshop. All fields here are mostly self-explanatory. We will brief about most of them below:
- Primary subject: This is the central subject that your workshop is in, which most often will be the domain of your expertise.
- Secondary subject: In case your workshop is addressing a different field, you can choose to select it here. We will present both to the kids perusal.
- Describe your Workshop: This is where you write a cool set of details about your workshop. This can involve what the kids will do/see during the workshop, how and where you’ll do the workshop/activity, what’s unique about your workshop.
- Outcome: This is where you write briefly what the kids will learn from your workshop. You can choose to write this in bullet points.
- Things to note: In case you want the kids to acquire certain raw materials, or have any other necessities, this is where you can write it down.
- Grades applicable: Based on your understanding, you can define who can indulge in your workshop. Use your best judgment :)
- Skills required: This is where you write down the pre-requisites or requirement before someone can book your workshop. Make sure this is very clear for the parents/kids to understand.
- Costing: We currently only allow an workshop to cost anywhere between 100 and 1000. Use a couple of references online/on our platform to understand how much similar workshops cost, and use your best judgment. Based on engagement and bookings, you can later revise this costing.   Workshop schedules:
This is where you can view all the slots of the workshop that you’ve created, and the registrations against each slot. You can go to “Add workshop schedule” to create a new slot of any of your workshop.

Question 14

How do I decide the grades for which my workshop/course is applicable?

Based on your understanding, you can define who can indulge in your workshop. Use your best judgment :) Our in-house coordinators will be coordinating with you to provide requisite information regarding school curricula that can help you judge your target audience.   Besides, we are going to review your workshop before approving anyway, and intervene to change it, if needed, based on our experience and knowledge. We will inform you if we do so.

How do I get my created workshop approved?

Once a workshop is submitted, sit back and relax. We will review it on our end, and approve it within 12 hours. We will reject a workshop if it’s demeaning/abusive/not adding value. In case the value add isn’t good enough, we will contact you first, and understand how we can tweak the workshop to make it worthy for children.

How do I create slots for my workshop? Does that require an approval too?

Once a workshop is approved, you can schedule the workshop whenever you want to. To create a workshop slot, click on “Add new schedule”. You will find the following fields:  - Choose workshop: Select the workshop for which you wish to create a schedule/slot. - Choose date and time - Additional information: In case there are any special instructions for the children attending this particular slot, do mention it here.

Question 17

How will I keep track of the bookings received for my workshop slots?

Once your workshop slot is created, the table in the Online Workshop Schedule dashboard shows you the real-time number of bookings received against that slot under the column “Registrations”. You can click on the number to also view the details of the participants.

Question 18

How do I start and conduct the online workshop/course?

Accepted Answer

In the same table where you can see your slots and registrations, you have the “Start” button, which takes you to the video conferencing tool (Zoom) where your class can be conducted. All the kids who have booked the workshop//course will receive the same link to attend your class.

What happens after I complete an online workshop with the children?

Accepted Answer

We send a thank you email to the children who have attended the workshop. In case they have any concerns, there will be a form that they can fill out. If we receive any issues/complaints, we will inform you. If there are no issues/complaints, the total sum payable to you gets updated under "Transaction History" in your portal.

How do I create a course?

This is where you can view all the batches of the course that you’ve created, and the registrations against each batch. You can go to “Add course schedule” to create a new slot of any of your courses.

How do I get my created course approved?

Once a course  is submitted, we will review it on our end, and approve it within 12 hours. We will reject a course if it’s demeaning/abusive/not adding value. Question 22

How do I decide the number of classes required to complete my course?

Accepted Answer

This is a call you need to take considering the following factors:
1. Start by defining checkpoints/milestones of each class.
2. Make sure that you don’t have more than 2 hours per class.
3. Think of activities/coursework that can be involved after a certain milestone, and provide a gap after that.
4. Make sure you keep 1 extra class in the end to clarify queries and concerns of the kids.

Question 23

How do I create slots/batches for my course? Does that require an approval too?

- Once a course is approved, we stay out of the picture, and let you run the show. We only intervene to make your payments on time. To create a course batch, click on “Add new schedule”. You will find the following fields:
- Choose course: Select the course for which you wish to create a schedule/slot.
- Choose date and time for each class. It’s always wise to keep the frequency constant for the convenience of kids/parents.
- Additional information: In case there are any special instructions for the kids for this particular batch, do mention it here. We’ll communicate it to the kids.

How will I keep track of the bookings received for my course batches?

Once your course batch is created, the table in the Online Course dashboard shows you the realtime number of bookings received against that slot under the column “Registrations”.

Question 25

How will I get paid for my work? What is your terms of payment?

We charge a nominal 20% of your total earnings as a platform fee. The amount payable to you for a particular month is transferred to your account on or before the 15th day of the next month.

Glad you asked! A signup isn’t mandatory to view the workshop or the course details. So, you can directly copy the link of your workshop/course page (from the ‘Preview’ option present against your online workshop/course), and share it in your social media or in your circles.
